CurioCrate
An original STEM program — designed, built, and delivered by students — bringing real laboratory science to classrooms that never had it.

Designed by Students. Built for Impact.
CurioCrate's impact comes from more than a box. It comes from volunteers who put in hundreds of hours building real relationships with students.
I'm Daniel, this year's president of CurioCrate. Traditional science communication has a ceiling: it mostly reaches kids who are already interested in science. So CurioCrate had to be personal and local, a macro movement built on micro-level work.
We build lessons around the students themselves, with clear objectives for each age group. What we've found, again and again, is that kids are capable of far more than we expect. That's what localized, intimate education makes possible. Every session, every kit, gives a kid room to wonder.
When the Society for Science gave us a $5,000 STEM Research Grant, I remember thinking the committee must have made a mistake. They hadn't. It turns out that when students build something for other students, people notice. That grant helped us reach more schools, more communities, and keep it going.
What I learned is that the hardest part isn't building something — it's making it run. Anyone can write a curriculum. Getting it into classrooms that never had one is a different problem entirely.
